MAGical Orchids
Take part in our orchid survey and help MAGical Meadows conserve these orchids.
Orchids and their habitats have been significantly affected by changes in farming practice,
development and collectors. MAGical Meadows is asking for your help in recording three of
the county’s orchids to help conserve these beautiful plants for future generations.
Common Twayblade
April – June
Description: Yellowgreen
flowers with a
pair of distinctive oval
shaped leaves.
Habitat: Wide-ranging
on neutral and lime-rich
soils.
Bee Orchid
June – Mid-July
Description: Flowers resemble
a fat bumblebee.
Habitat: Grassland, dunes, road
verges, quarries and disturbed
ground with dry, lime-rich soils.
Pyramidal Orchid
Mid-June – August
Description: The pink flowering
spike has a distinct pyramidal shape
before reaching maturity, and then
appears more cylindrical.
Habitat: Calcareous & coastal
grassland, quarries, road verges and
disturbed ground with lime-rich soils.
